My Circle ("we", "us", or "our") is operated by Orrery Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have.
By using My Circle, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. What we collect
We collect the following information when you use My Circle:
Account information — your name, email address, and password (stored securely via AWS Cognito)
Profile information — your age, location (city), school, bio, and profile photo
Interests — the specific interests you provide during onboarding and in your profile
Vibe answers — your responses to our personality questions (recharge style, friendship style, plans style)
Messages — messages you send to other users within the app
Usage data — how you interact with the app, including features used and time spent
Device information — device type, operating system, and push notification token
2. How we use your data
We use your data to:
Match you with compatible people based on your interests, communication style, location and personality
Enable you to participate in Circles — interest-based groups in your city
Facilitate introductions and conversations between matched users
Send push notifications about matches, messages, and circle activity
Analyse your bio using AWS Comprehend to understand your communication style and sentiment — this helps us find people who think similarly to you
Improve the app and fix bugs
Comply with legal obligations
3. How we share your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with the following third parties solely to operate the service:
Amazon Web Services (AWS) — we use AWS Cognito for authentication, AWS DynamoDB to store profiles and messages, AWS Neptune to power our matching graph, AWS S3 to store profile photos, and AWS Comprehend to analyse communication style. AWS processes data in the eu-north-1 (Stockholm) region.
Expo — we use Expo's push notification service to deliver notifications to your device
We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests.
4. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on AWS servers in the EU (Stockholm, eu-north-1 region). We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Passwords are never stored in plain text. Authentication is handled by AWS Cognito which uses industry-standard encryption.
5. How long we keep your data
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal reasons.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:
Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction — request that we correct inaccurate data
Deletion — request that we delete your data. You can also delete your account directly within the app under Profile → Account → Delete account
Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
Objection — object to how we process your data
Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw at any time
My Circle is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
